As a member of ‘The Vaselines’, Frances sang of killing pussycats and making muffs and hats out of their fur, and of riding raw young men called Rory. After years of such cheeky misbehaviour, she is no less inspired but certainly considerably darker in an autumnal Gothic sort of way.
