The programme Celestial Navigation is an elegy to a work by the American artist Joseph Cornell (1903-72); Kolesnikov sees parallels between Cornell’s assemblage and the concept of a musical recital. The artist has inspired the pianist's own attempts to make soundscapes and sound worlds from found musical objects.
